The Dulux Colour of the Year 2022 has been announced as “Bright Skies”, a light, airy and optimistic blue that’s described by experts as “good for the soul”.
The shade is ideal for decorating, with the vibrant tone bringing a joyful feeling to any living space, a shade many interior fans will therefore be keen to embrace into their homes.
Synonymous with bringing the outdoors inside, it’s perhaps no surprise that the shade is already popular with interior designers and home DIY-ers alike, with light blue an ideal backdrop to allow use of colourful shades of yellow, green and pink through home furnishings and accessories.
Interior Designer Rebecca Challinor, of home furnishings retailer Terrys says “After the last 18 months, many of us are looking to bring some light back into our lives and Dulux have really nailed this through the introduction of their 2022 Colour of the Year, Bright Skies.”
“Blue is a subtle shade with cool undertones and using it in any room within the house will make the space feel bigger.
“That said, the light and airy tones of Bright Skies lend themselves particularly well to both the bedroom and the living room, as areas that we spend a lot of time in are typically more prone to feeling cramped.
“This particular shade is ideal for creating décor that suits a multi-purpose lifestyle. Many of us are now looking to create spaces within our home that reflect both a positive space for working and a place for relaxation and blue is fantastic for doing just that.
“Light blue has a softening effect, making it a great neutral backdrop for a more eclectic pairing, for example contrasting shades of pink or yellow. Stick to blue for the walls and inject pops of vibrant colour through decorative accessories including cushions, vases and artwork to create a space that will make you smile both day and night.”
Dulux’s Colour of the Year plays a key role in influencing home and interior trends over the coming year, so it’s anticipated that we’ll be seeing lots more of the bright blue tone throughout 2022.
